A Promise To The Community

Like the LGBTQIA+ Community itself, acronyms and definitions describing us are always growing and changing. This growth is a wonderful detail, indicative of the increasing inclusivity of the variance of gender, sexuality, and identity throughout the queer community. Recent actions have seen federal agencies attack this acronym and dismantle it to be “LGB”. There is no hiding that this is a blatant attempt to silence and dehumanize us and those we love.

We place extreme value on each member of this community and how they are represented however, we are more than an acronym and removing letters does not make us go away or hide. Whether by ink, keystroke, or action, we promise to stand and fight this act of oppression along side you. During this uphill battle, do not neglect yourselves. Do what you can to stay safe, surround yourself with loved ones and allies in safe spaces. Take time to reflect, heal, and never neglect your mental or physical health.

Know that you are not alone. There are millions of people who value you, the life you live, and our community. Lancaster Pride promises to continue to create safe spaces, events, provide rescores all while increasing our efforts to be heard on a larger scale. We promise that we see you all and we stand with you. We promise to be unapologetically ourselves no matter how we identify in the LGBTQIA+ Community. We promise to stand tall and unwavering besides, with, and for our community. We promise that our work has just begun.
